At a recent show I found a table of Linwood Calcites of which I have not seen many, since I found some a few years ago. The overall quantity and quality of this batch was not as good as the earlier find. However, after looking through this batch I came across what every Collector hopes to discover, i.e., a jewel among the many nice but not great specimens.
This wonderful specimen is a cluster of "absolutely pristine" modified rhombohedral, gemmy Calcite crystals with Marcasite inclusions. The largest crystal measures 8x6x5 cm with delicate striations and a golden phantom.
We know that at most large shows there are many Indian specimens available - the vast majority being not of the quality, which would appeal to a discriminating collector. However, this beautiful specimen of gemmy Calcite with Fluorapophyllite and Stilbite on Chalcedony covered matrix would be a nice addition to a quality collection. It is in pristine condition.
A beautiful and showy display of these distinctive specimens from from the 2nd Sovetskii Mine. Very different from the majority of these specimens as it features rarely seen Scepter habits on many of the crystals. Apparently from a limited one pocket. In very good condition with only a few broken crystals, but they hide well among all the others.
A slice (or slab) of dendroidal Barite polished on one side. Unusual and interesting. In fine condition.
Very nice specimen of dark amber, gemmy and lustrous Sphalerite crystals on Quartz. In very good condition.
A plate of sharp, lustrous orange Chabazite crystals, with some showing penetration twinning. In very good condition.
This specimen is a nice example of the relatively new, unique and attractive Quartz crystals from Columbia, which are commonly referred to as "Mango Quartz". The upper parts of most of these crystals feature bright yellow-orange inclusions of a Halloysite. The Quartz crystals in their own right are high quality, hexagonal prisms with good luster. The largest crystal measures 6.3 cm long. In very good condition.
A stunning, colorful Fluorite with unusual crystal habit from recent finds in Jinhua, China. A beautiful, gemmy and lustrous 3 x 2.2 x 2.2 cm Fluorite crystal with smaller sidecar crystals is nicely perched atop a matrix covered with sparkly druzy Quartz. The striking crystal habit appears to be a cube with unusual and rare modifying dodecahedral faces. In fine condition.
Another very attractive Indian specimen with a cube of gemmy Calcite measuring 3.5 x 3 x 2 cm sitting on a Stilbite matrix. In fine condition.
A nice specimen of lustrous, blue Kyanite crystals on Quartz. Very sturdy versus many such specimens. In good condition.
Halite specimens from Searles Lake in California are some of the largest and most attractive ever found. This display piece features fine quality, very sharp, beautiful, pinkish cubes measuring up to ---cm on edge sitting on a layer of golden colored Trona. The crystals have a defined skeletal or "hoppered" growth. This specimen shows more separation of crystal and crystal groups than common, which adds to the aesthetics.
In fine condition. These should be displayed/stored in lower humid conditions.
A beautiful specimen of yellow Wulfenite blades scattered atop a matrix. There are some chipped tips, but this pretty typical and they tend to get lost in the overall display.
A stunning Chinese specimen of gemmy and lustrous Fluorite crystals with a rare brownish coloring and distinctive zoning. In fine condition.
A nice specimen of lustrous, gemmy green Fluorite crystals on matrix. In very good condition.
A nice piece of black, lustrous Hematite from Morocco. In very good condition.
A wonderful specimen of classic Aurichalcite from the famous Ojuela Mine. It is loaded with bright greenish-blue , acicular crystals in radial "bursts" associated with white to colorless Calcite over a Limonite matrix. In very good condition.
A stunning, densely banded, sawed and polished Malachite stalactite "eye" beautifully surrrounded by contrasting rich sky-blue Chrysocolla from the famous Star of Congo Mine. A choice, colorful and mesmerizing combination. A hefty 2.9 lbs. In fine condition
